Tillmannsdorfer Sattel

Tillmannsdorfer Sattel is a natural monument and archaeological site in Wülfrath featuring limestone formations with distinct folds. The layers rise approximately 4 meters above the surrounding ground near the Wuppertal border.

During the Devonian period, a shallow sea covered this area with reefs that accumulated limestone deposits. Coral remains and calcareous organisms from that ancient seabed formed the foundation of today's rock layers.

The site is named after the Tillmann family who once lived in this region. Visitors can read information panels that explain how the landscape formed over time.

The Eulenkopfweg hiking trail provides direct access to this geological formation for visitors. Installed lighting allows evening visits to the site.

The rock formation displays small-scale folds approximately 15 meters wide, representing a rare third-order fold. This structural feature has survived millions of years of natural erosion while remaining remarkably preserved.
