Schloss Favorite, Baroque hunting palace in Rastatt, Germany.
Schloss Favorite is a baroque hunting lodge in Rastatt designed for leisure and entertaining. The building features multiple wings with a flat rooftop terrace that offers views over the sprawling parkland surrounding it.
Construction began in 1717 and finished in 1723, designed by architect Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer. Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg commissioned it as his personal retreat.
The name Favorite comes from the French word meaning darling, reflecting the purpose of this retreat. Visitors can see how nobility furnished their leisure spaces and what styles they valued during this period.
The palace sits at Favoritepark 1 and welcomes visitors, though advance reservations are needed for guided tours. Opening is limited to the months from March through October, so check current schedules before planning a visit.
A hidden gallery in the great hall allowed musicians to play unseen by guests. This secret placement created a mysterious source of music that filled the room while listeners remained unaware of where the performers were.
