Rheinburg, Cultural heritage villa in Koblenz, Germany.

Rheinburg is a villa in Koblenz, Germany, standing at the point where the Moselle meets the Rhine and built to look like a small castle from the outside. The building has a tower and a facade with historicist details that echo the fortified architecture typical of the Rhine Valley.

The villa was built in the 19th century, when wealthy families along the Rhine were constructing country residences inspired by Romantic ideals and medieval imagery. This wave of building transformed the appearance of many towns and slopes along the river during that period.

The name Rheinburg refers to its position on the Rhine and its castle-like form, which echoes medieval fortress architecture. Visitors can spot the neo-Gothic details on the facade, a style that was seen in the 19th century as a sign of regional pride and social standing.

The villa sits along the Rhine riverbank and can be reached on foot from central Koblenz, including via the Rheinsteig walking trail. The path along the river can be uneven in places, so solid footwear is a good idea.

Rheinburg stands very close to the Deutsches Eck, the narrow spit of land where the Rhine and Moselle meet, and from this spot the two rivers are visible side by side. The two rivers often carry water of different colors at the point where they meet, which makes the junction easy to spot from the bank.
