Markthalle IV, Market hall in Dorotheenstadt, Berlin-Mitte, Germany.
Markthalle IV is a listed market hall in the Dorotheenstadt area of Berlin-Mitte, with entrances on Dorotheenstraße and Reichstagufer. The building has a ground floor and a basement level and sits close to the government quarter along the Spree river.
The hall was built in 1913 as a public market and served Berlin residents for decades as a place to buy fresh goods. In the 1990s the building was converted into the headquarters of the Federal Government's Press and Information Office.
The building shows the typical Berlin market hall style of the early 1900s, with high ceilings and large windows that let daylight into the interior. Today it serves as the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government, giving it a particular role in the government quarter.
The building is centrally located in Berlin-Mitte and easy to reach by public transit, with several metro and suburban rail stops nearby. Since it now functions as a government office, public access is limited and worth checking before visiting.
Although the building looks like a historic market hall from the outside, the interior was fully reorganized to suit a modern government office. The original facade with its brick detailing was kept intact throughout the conversion.
