Gut Eisbergen, Manor estate in Porta Westfalica, Germany.
Gut Eisbergen is a sandstone manor house on the Weser River, situated south of the Weser Mountains, decorated with two baroque female sculptures and a vase from 1783. The complex includes several structures that together form a country estate integrated into the surrounding landscape.
The estate was first documented in 1396 under Florecke von Zerssen and underwent major reconstruction in 1747. A fire in 1912 damaged the buildings, which were subsequently rebuilt.
The estate connects to Dorothea Christiane Erxleben, who became the first woman in Germany to obtain a medical doctorate in 1754. Her legacy reminds visitors of the notable individuals who once lived here.
The estate functions today as an equestrian facility and private residence, positioned near the Appenhäuser Bruch nature reserve. Visitors should note that this is a private property, so viewing is best done from outside the grounds.
At the western edge of the adjacent Gut Oheimb park lies the von Schellersheim family burial ground, marking generations of property owners. This hidden cemetery tells of the long family connection to this land.
