Mining activities at the site began in 1881, continuing until 1960, with the facility reopening as an educational show mine in 1988.
The Museum für Bergbau und Erdgeschichte presents exhibitions about local mining traditions, geological formations, and the daily life of miners.
Tours operate from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 17:00, with adult admission costing 8 euros and children aged 6-15 paying 4 euros.
The underground lake known as Blaue Lagune formed from groundwater within the mine, creating a distinctive feature during guided tours.
