Wildpark-MV, Wildlife park and zoo in Güstrow, Germany
Wildpark-MV is a wildlife park and zoo set in a forested area near Güstrow, in the north of Germany. It houses native species such as wolves, bears, lynxes, and wildcats in enclosures that follow the natural woodland setting.
The site opened originally under the name Natur und Umweltpark before gradually developing into a zoological conservation project. Part of its mission has long involved breeding Heck cattle, a modern breed developed to carry traits of the long-extinct aurochs.
The park serves today as a place to observe regional animal species and learn about local nature firsthand. Visitors can take time to discover animal behavior and habitats directly across spacious enclosures.
The park is best explored on foot along forest paths, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Visitors who want to see all the sections without rushing should plan to spend at least half a day.
The WasserWelten section of the park lets visitors observe fish at close range as if looking from beneath the water surface. The setup gives a view into river life that most visitors do not expect to find inside a woodland wildlife park.
