Großer Ehberg, Mountain summit in Teutoburg Forest, Germany

Großer Ehberg is a forested summit in the Teutoburg Forest region that rises to approximately 340 meters. Tree-covered slopes characterize the mountain, with multiple marked paths crossing through the woodland offering different approaches to the top.

The area is known for a conflict between Germanic tribes and Roman legions that took place in 9 AD and halted Rome's expansion northward. This event shaped the course of European history in the centuries that followed.

The mountain serves as a regular meeting point for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts from surrounding communities who come to experience the forest landscape. This ongoing use has made it an important part of local life and connection to nature.

Marked trails from various starting points lead to the summit, with hiking times ranging from about one to three hours depending on your chosen route. Wear sturdy footwear and pay attention to weather conditions, as they can change quickly in forested mountain areas.

The summit offers views toward Kanzel, a nearby higher peak located roughly 2 kilometers to the east-southeast. These two mountains together shape the visual character of the local landscape.
