Halde Hoppenbruch

Halde Hoppenbruch is an artificial hill built from mining materials, rising prominently above the surrounding terrain with slopes covered in vegetation. A wind turbine crowns the summit, while trails for hiking and mountain biking crisscross the hillside.

This hill took shape between 1978 and 1992 from mining waste generated by the Ewald and General Blumenthal mines. It represents a chapter in the region's industrial past when such accumulation was part of extraction operations.

This site is part of the Route of Industrial Heritage and demonstrates how former mining areas have been transformed into recreational and natural spaces. Visitors can witness how the landscape has been repurposed to serve the community today.

This location can be explored on foot or by mountain bike, with routes of varying difficulty for different skill levels. Weather and ground conditions vary by season, so planning ahead according to the time of year is helpful.

A modern wind turbine has been installed on the summit since 2016, producing significantly more electricity than the previous installation. This renewable energy source demonstrates how the site now contributes to sustainable energy generation.
