The 660-hectare Mediterranean coastal park contains dense forests, marine areas, and mountain landscapes between the sea and Mount Gouraya.
The Algerian government established this conservation area in 1984 to protect local flora and fauna along the Mediterranean coastline.
The park serves as a research center for scientists studying North African wildlife, including the Barbary macaque and Mediterranean marine mammals.
