Casbah of Béjaïa

The Casbah of Bejaia is a fortress positioned on elevated ground above the port city, commanding views of the coastline and surrounding areas. The rectangular stronghold encompasses multiple structures and spaces built during different periods, creating layers of architecture across its terrain.

The fortress was founded in 1065 under Hammadid rule and later underwent significant transformations under different rulers who shaped its design. Each period of control left its mark on the buildings and layout of the site.
