Lalla-Khedidja

Lalla-Khedidja is the highest summit in the Djurdjura Range, rising above 2,300 meters with steep rocky slopes and distinct geological formations. The northern face displays sheer rock walls, while other slopes are covered with vegetation that shifts with elevation.

The summit has served as a key landmark for centuries, helping travelers and nomads navigate through the Tell Atlas region in northern Algeria. Its prominent profile made it a well-known reference point in this mountainous landscape.

The summit holds an important place in the stories and identity of nearby Berber communities who live in the region. Local inhabitants see it as a landmark that connects them to their heritage and to the wider landscape around them.

Climbing to the summit requires mountaineering experience and proper equipment, especially during winter when snow covers the upper sections. Start early in the day to allow enough daylight for the climb and descent.

The summit qualifies as an Ultra peak with a prominence of roughly 1,700 meters, giving it special geological significance among regional peaks. These large elevation differences from surrounding valleys make it one of Algeria's most prominent mountains.
