Forêt de Baïnem, Natural forest area in northwestern Algiers, Algeria.
Forêt de Baïnem is a wooded area northwest of Algiers that covers roughly 600 hectares across multiple communes. The terrain varies in elevation and features walking paths, parking areas, restaurants, and facilities scattered throughout.
After a severe fire in 1956 devastated the forest, extensive replanting efforts restored the area using eucalyptus and various pine species. This replanting shaped the forest as it appears today.
The National Forestry Research Institute within the forest grounds conducts scientific programs focused on local plant species and environmental conservation.
The forest is easily accessible at multiple entry points with parking areas and marked paths for visitors to explore different sections. Dining options are available throughout the grounds for visitors to take breaks.
A section of the forest contains an arboretum covering roughly 50 hectares where rare and exotic tree species from different regions grow. Visitors can find the Atlas Cedar there, a tree native to North Africa.
