Paljassaare, Natural conservation area in Põhja-Tallinn, Estonia
Paljassaare is a peninsula jutting into Tallinn Bay that combines natural reserves, a cargo port, and residential neighborhoods. The roughly 43-hectare area is crisscrossed by roads connecting its different zones.
The area formed when two separate islands merged into a peninsula through natural processes and human modifications during the past century. This transformation opened the land to different uses.
The area maintains a population of 583 residents while supporting essential infrastructure including a marine radar tower and water treatment facilities.
The area can be explored on a network of dirt and gravel paths that connect to viewing spots. The routes are easy to walk and allow you to see different parts of the land.
The land is protected as a NATURA 2000 site and provides habitat for bird species like ringed plovers and dunlins. These birds are especially visible during migration seasons.
