Basque Coast Geopark

The Basque Coast Geopark extends across three municipalities - Mutriku, Deba, and Zumaia - featuring limestone cliffs and distinctive rock formations along the Cantabrian Sea.

The geological layers of the flysch formations contain a continuous sequence spanning 60 million years, including evidence of the last major global extinction event.

The territory preserves ancient caves where early inhabitants left artifacts and art pieces while sharing the land with bears, bison, deer, and horses.

Visitors can explore the geopark through a 55-kilometer self-guided route connecting 15 natural viewpoints, allowing for comprehensive exploration over one or two days.

The karst landscape within the geopark reveals a network of cavities formed by water erosion in tropical sea limestone deposits from distant geological periods.
