Itxaspe

Itxaspe is a beach on the Basque coast near Deba that stretches for about 750 meters. The shoreline is made up of pebbles and rocks, surrounded by steep cliffs.

The beach is located within the Basque Coast Geopark, where rock layers are over 60 million years old. These geological formations developed through lengthy processes of sediment accumulation and compression.

The beach supports local fishing traditions and has areas where people bathe without swimwear. The landscape shows how deeply the Basque community has always been connected to the sea.

You reach the beach by following the N-634 road and then walking down a pathway. Visitors should know that facilities are limited and water currents are strong here.

The beach is set within a protected geological formation called Flysch, where rock layers display millions of years of sedimentary processes. These visible layers tell the story of Earth's formation in a way that is rarely visible elsewhere.
