Solidaridad, Steel sculpture in Parque de El Rinconín, Spain
Solidaridad is a stainless steel sculpture composed of four interlinked cylindrical forms in Parque de El Rinconín. The work weighs roughly three and a half tons and is arranged so the elements resemble chain links forming a connected sequence.
Artist José Noja created this work in 1999 after leaving behind a career as a pilot. His transition to sculpture began in the late 1960s and eventually established him as a respected Spanish artist working in steel and other materials.
The open chain links represent bonds between people of different beliefs and worldviews. Visitors naturally walk around and through the form, making the idea of connection something they can physically experience.
This sculpture sits in a public park and is easily accessible for visitors of all ages. The location provides room to walk around it comfortably and explore the surrounding park area.
The stainless steel material catches light and reflects it in many directions, changing how the work looks depending on the time of day and weather. This means each visit offers a slightly different visual experience.
