San Lorenzo Beach

San Lorenzo is an urban beach in Gijón that stretches for 1500 meters along the northern coast, bordered by a three-kilometer promenade called El Muro. The wide sandy shoreline provides different zones with volleyball courts and water sports facilities for various activities.

The beach's development began in the late 19th century when local authorities built a protective seawall and created the first bathing facilities. These early structures transformed the shoreline into an organized bathing destination for the growing city.

The beach hosts local celebrations like the summer Semana Grande festival, where locals and visitors gather to celebrate together. The shoreline serves year-round as a social gathering spot for sports, games, and daily encounters.

The beach has showers, restrooms, and lifeguard services available, with good accessibility for visitors of different abilities. The adjacent promenade includes shops and restaurants that complete the visit.

At low tide, natural limestone formations reveal themselves, creating small pools perfect for exploring marine creatures. These hidden structures form through erosion and offer surprisingly educational moments during a beach visit.
