Hougham Battery, Coastal artillery battery in Kent, England
The military installation contains three gun emplacements and a network of underground tunnels positioned along the cliffs between Dover and Folkestone.
Built in 1941, Hougham Battery protected the Kent coastline with three 8-inch Mark VIII naval guns operated by the 520 Coastal Regiment Royal Artillery.
The battery facility incorporates military architectural elements from World War II, including observation posts, plotting rooms, and defensive fortifications.
The construction of the A20 road during the 1970s covered most structures with earth, leaving limited surface remains accessible for exploration.
The underground plotting room features original electrical fittings and walls measuring 10 inches thick, demonstrating wartime construction techniques.
