Moel Sych

Moel Sych, Mountain summit in Denbighshire, Wales.

Moel Sych is a mountain summit in the Berwyn range in northeast Wales, rising to 827 meters above sea level. The peak offers wide views across the surrounding Welsh landscape and sits prominently within this significant highland area.

The mountain was long believed to be one of the highest points in Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire until surveys discovered a taller peak situated between it and Cadair Berwyn. This finding shifted how people understood the geographical ranking of summits in the Berwyn range.

The name comes from Welsh and means 'dry hill', describing the exposed terrain found at this elevation. Visitors notice the open, barren landscape typical of the high peaks in this mountain range.

The mountain can be reached via several hiking paths, including a moderate route from Pistyll Rhaeadr that covers about 9.5 kilometers with 771 meters of elevation gain. Visitors should bring weather-resistant gear and sturdy footwear, as the exposed summit area experiences rapid weather changes.

The summit sits at the border of three historic Welsh counties: Montgomeryshire, Denbighshire, and Merionethshire. This location makes it a notable geographical boundary point that hikers cross during their ascent.
