Fort Gross Fredericksburg

The stone fortress stands on Manfro Hill, featuring 32 cannons and thick walls overlooking the Gulf of Guinea from its elevated position.

The Brandenburg Africa Company constructed this trading post between 1683 and 1684 under Benjamin Raule's direction to establish German presence on the Gold Coast.

The fort's connection to Chief John Conny influenced Caribbean festivals, particularly the John Canoe celebrations that spread through the Atlantic world.

The structure now functions as a rest house with capacity for ten visitors, operating daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM with guided tours available.

After the Brandenburg company departed in 1717, Chief John Conny controlled the fort for seven years and removed stones for his personal construction projects.
