The Court House, Grade II* listed building in Morpeth, England
The Court House is a Gothic fortress-style building in Morpeth with a massive square front block and matching towers on either side. An octagonal apsidal section adds a distinctive shape to the overall form of the structure.
The building was constructed in 1822 as part of a larger prison complex and later served as both a Magistrates Court and County Court. It closed in 1980, ending its use in the judicial system.
Local architect John Dobson designed the Court House along with more than 150 other structures that shaped the architectural landscape of Northeast England.
The building now serves as residential apartments and sits beside Carlisle Park where parking is available within easy walking distance. Its location makes access to nearby amenities and green spaces straightforward.
After its court role ended, the building served as a nightclub and later as a women-only health club before being converted into luxury apartments. Today visitors can see how modern living spaces fit within the fortress-like exterior.
