Plunton Castle, Medieval tower house in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
The three-story L-plan tower house features vaulted ceilings, gun-looped openings, and defensive walls constructed from local greywacke stone with sandstone details.
Built around 1575 for the Lennoxes of Plunton, the castle passed to the Murrays of Broughton through marriage in the late 17th century.
The castle structure represents the architectural evolution of Scottish defensive residences, incorporating both military features and residential comfort elements.
The castle remains stand between Kirkandrews and Gatehouse of Fleet, with surrounding burns and marshy grounds that once served as natural defenses.
The first-floor great hall contains original features including a fireplace and window openings that retain evidence of their initial iron grille installations.
