Fićo tramples a tank!, Public art installation in Osijek, Croatia.
Fićo tramples a tank is an outdoor sculpture at the intersection of Vukovar and Trpimir Streets showing a red Zastava 750 positioned above a T-55 tank. The installation uses full-size versions of both vehicles, with the car physically mounted on top of the military tank.
The artwork was created in 2011 and references an event from 1991 when a civilian car was crushed by Yugoslav forces during the siege of Osijek. This artistic response emerged years later as a memorial to that moment of destruction.
The red Zastava 750, known as Fićo, represents how ordinary people confronted military force during conflict. The composition shows how residents transformed a moment of violence into a statement about civilian dignity.
The installation is freely accessible during daylight hours and can be viewed from all sides. Information panels at the site explain the historical context and provide visitors with background on the artwork.
The sculpture inverts the original incident by placing the civilian car above the military tank instead of beneath it. This visual reversal transforms a tragedy into a symbol of resistance and hope for the community.
