Phensang Monastery, Buddhist vihara in Mangan district, India
The Phensang Monastery stands on a gentle slope between Kabi and Phodong at an elevation of 1572 meters above sea level in North Sikkim.
Established in 1721 during Jigme Pawo's reign, the monastery experienced complete destruction by fire in 1947 before being reconstructed the following year.
Three hundred monks reside in this Nyingmapa Order monastery, conducting religious ceremonies and participating in annual festivals throughout the Tibetan calendar.
Visitors can reach the monastery from Bagdogra Airport, which connects to major cities and offers helicopter services to nearby Gangtok for accommodation.
The monastery presents the Kagyad dance ritual two days before the Sikkimese New Year to symbolize the removal of negative forces.
