Villa Imperiale, Ancient Roman villa ruins in Pompeii, Italy
The Villa Imperiale extends across multiple terraces near the city walls, featuring a substantial colonnade with 43 columns stretching 80 meters in length.
Built during the first imperial age, this patrician residence suffered extensive damage in the 62 AD earthquake and remained unrepaired until Mount Vesuvius eruption.
The villa walls display third style decorations with Greek-inspired frescoes depicting mythological scenes, including Theseus slaying the Minotaur and Icarus falling.
The residence contains reconstructed rooms with period furniture, including a bedroom with authentic benches, candelabra, and document boxes for visitors to examine.
The villa features an alcove with windows facing the Gulf of Naples, displaying a combination of architectural elements that adapt to the natural hillside terrain.
