Castello Cesi, Medieval castle in San Polo dei Cavalieri, Italy

The rectangular fortress features a central keep and semicircular watchtowers at the corners, with battlements at the top of the structure.

During the late 14th century, the Orsini family acquired the castle, transforming it into a military stronghold between Sabina and Aniene Valley.

In 1603, Federico Cesi established the headquarters of Accademia dei Lincei within the castle walls, where Galileo Galilei conducted scientific studies.

The castle remains under private ownership and requires advance arrangements through phone or email contact for potential visits to the premises.

An octagonal cistern with small columns and Orsini family crests, created by Zuccari workshop in 1439, stands in the castle courtyard.
