Santa Maria Succurre Miseris ai Vergini, Baroque church in Vergini district, Naples, Italy.

Santa Maria Succurre Miseris ai Vergini is a baroque church in Naples' Vergini neighborhood with a distinctive facade of grey trachytic stone and white plaster. The front features alternating concave and convex curves that create a dynamic, undulating surface typical of the baroque style.

Construction began in 1613 when noblewomen from Naples decided to build a shelter for poor women in this location. By 1615, the founders had acquired the nearby Palazzo Marzano to expand their charitable work.

The church was founded by noblewomen who wanted to create a refuge for poor women in need. Its name reflects this original mission of providing help to those who needed it most.

The church is located in the Vergini neighborhood, an older district with narrow streets that works best on foot. Visiting at quieter times helps you experience the interior without large crowds.

An earlier church dedicated to Saint Anthony once stood on this spot before the current structure was built. Remnants from that older building, including paintings from the 14th century, are still visible in the lower apse.
