Palazzo del Principe di Sannicandro, Noble palace in Stella district, Naples, Italy
The Palazzo del Principe di Sannicandro is a noble residence in the Stella district featuring a grand stone portal as its main entrance. The interior has been divided into separate apartments on the upper levels while the entrance hall retains its original architectural details.
The building was constructed in the second half of the 16th century and passed to the Carafa di Maddaloni family in 1585. This noble family reshaped it into one of their significant residences.
The palace once housed a major art collection that brought together works by local and international artists. This collection remains notable today as evidence of the cultural importance the residence held during its period of greatest prominence.
The building is located in a residential neighborhood, so access to the interior may be limited. Visitors should view the facade and entrance area from outside and check ahead if they wish to see inside.
In the early modern period the residence was owned by Flemish banker Gaspare Roomer, who assembled a major art collection featuring works by Rubens and Vouet. This collection made the residence an important center for art patronage in Naples.
