Oasi blu di Gianola

The Oasi blu di Gianola is a protected marine area covering about 5 hectares of water along the Tyrrhenian Sea near Formia. Rocky underwater formations here create habitats that extend down to depths of around 4 meters.

This protected area was established in 1988 as a marine sanctuary to safeguard coastal ecosystems along Italy's Lazio region. The creation reflected growing efforts to conserve Mediterranean waters during that period.

The reserve functions as an educational center where researchers conduct studies on marine life conservation and ecological preservation methods for the Mediterranean waters.

Visitors should check water conditions before visiting, as visibility and sea state change with the seasons. Access is primarily through boat tours from Formia or with guided diving excursions for a safe experience.

The reserve features a natural underwater spring and serves as a sanctuary for sea turtles. These elements make it a special place for observing Mediterranean marine life.
