Antium, Ancient city in Lazio, Italy.

Located 51 kilometers south of Rome, Anzio extends into the Tyrrhenian Sea with a natural harbor and extensive sandy coastline.

Originally named Antium, the city served as a capital for the Volsci people until Romans captured it in 338 BCE, later becoming a resort for emperors.

The ruins of Emperor Nero's villa, the ancient theatre, and archaeological finds displayed in Villa Adele museum represent the Roman heritage of Anzio.

Regular trains connect Anzio to Roma Termini station, while ferries depart from the port to the Pontine Islands throughout the summer season.

The city became a central hub for submarine telegraph cables in 1925, connecting Italy with New York, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.
