Forte Sangallo

Forte Sangallo is a Renaissance fort with thick stone walls, defense towers, and a five-sided shape built specifically to withstand attacks from the sea. Every angle of the structure serves a defensive purpose.

The fort was founded in 1501 by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder to protect Rome from sea attacks. Over centuries it served various rulers and changed with shifting military needs.
