Ōwada Communication Site, Military communication facility in Niiza and Kiyose, Japan
The Ōwada Communication Site contains multiple radio reception installations with antenna systems spread across a secured compound near Tokyo metropolitan area.
Established in 1936 for radio interception during the Sino-Japanese War, the facility transferred to United States Air Force control after World War II.
The facility represents the lasting military partnership between Japan and the United States, maintaining its operational presence in the region since 1964.
The site remains an active military installation under the management of the U.S. Air Force's 374th Airlift Wing, with restricted access and security measures.
The facility intercepted critical communications during World War II, including messages related to Pearl Harbor, and now shares space with the Japan Meteorological Agency.
