Saitama Aquarium

The Saitama Aquarium displays freshwater species from the Arakawa and Tone Rivers in indoor and outdoor sections, featuring native fish, turtles, and river sharks. The exhibits are arranged to show the different habitats and environments found in these river systems.

The aquarium opened in October 1983 to provide nature education through displays of about 70 fish species native to Saitama Prefecture. Since then, it has grown into an important place for understanding local river ecosystems and their wildlife.

The facility focuses on endangered Japanese freshwater species marked with Red List signs, highlighting efforts to protect local river ecosystems. Visitors can observe which animals belong to this region and understand why their survival matters to the community.

The aquarium is located in Hanyu Riverside Park and is easy to reach by car, with ample parking available for visitors. Comfortable shoes are recommended since you can explore both indoor and outdoor sections of the facility.

Visitors can touch and feed turtles in a shallow pool, getting hands-on experience with these animals. The facility also protects the habitat of a rare native duck species found nowhere else in the country.
