Usukuchi Tatsuno Soy Sauce Museum

The Usukuchi Tatsuno Soy Sauce Museum displays traditional equipment, production methods, and historical documents related to soy sauce manufacturing through multiple exhibition rooms.

Established in November 1979, the museum occupies a former soy sauce factory building that belonged to Higashimaru Shoyu, a company with over 400 years of production history.

The museum preserves the heritage of Japanese soy sauce making traditions by showcasing ancient tools, malting chambers, and manufacturing techniques that shaped local culinary practices.

Located at 54-1 Tatsunochō Ōte in Tatsuno, the museum welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except Mondays, with an entrance fee of 10 yen.

The facility holds the distinction of being the first museum worldwide dedicated to soy sauce, featuring exhibits that detail the creation of light-colored usukuchi variety.
