Ikaruga-dera, Buddhist temple in Taishi, Japan

Ikaruga-dera is a Buddhist temple in Hyogo Prefecture featuring a three-story pagoda, a lecture hall, and multiple Buddha statues distributed across its grounds. The layout follows the traditional temple design with structures arranged to create distinct areas for worship and learning.

The temple was founded in the early 7th century and received strong support from Prince Shotoku, who provided land and spiritual guidance to strengthen it. Its connection to another major temple shaped its role in the region's Buddhist development.

The temple serves as a gathering place where the local community comes together for spiritual ceremonies and religious observances throughout the year. These occasions bring people together and keep the site active in the daily spiritual life of the region.

The temple grounds are easily accessible with clear pathways connecting the different buildings and areas. Comfortable shoes are helpful since you will spend time walking around to see the various structures and statues.

The temple houses three hidden Buddha statues that are revealed to the public only during special viewing occasions in February. These rare displays make those dates particularly memorable for visitors.
