Ikaruga-dera, Buddhist temple in Taishi, Japan

Set in Hyogo Prefecture, Ikarugadera Temple features a three-story pagoda, lecture hall, and multiple Buddhist statues within its temple grounds.

Founded in 606 CE during the reign of Empress Suiko, the temple received 360 acres of land from Prince Shotoku who established it as a branch of Horyuji Temple.

The temple holds annual ceremonies including the Daihannya scripture reading and Prince Shotoku spring memorial services, bringing together local community members.

Visitors can access Ikarugadera by taking a Shinki bus from Himeji Station to Ikaruga stop, followed by a 200-meter walk to the temple entrance.

The temple contains three hidden Buddha statues that are displayed only during special viewing ceremonies on February 22 and 23 each year.
