Ōhama Park

Ōhama Park is an urban park in Sakai-ku offering a baseball field, gymnasium, swimming pool, and monkey island as separate recreational zones. These facilities spread across the grounds, allowing visitors to enjoy multiple activities in one location.

The park was founded in 1879 and hosted a national industrial fair in 1903, marking its importance in regional growth. These early roles shaped how the area developed over time.

The park hosts the Sakai Grand Evening Fish Market on July 31st, drawing visitors to experience fishing traditions that local people have maintained for centuries.

The park sits about ten minutes walk from Sakai Station on the Nankai Main Line, making it easy to reach by train. Paid parking is available if you prefer to arrive by car.

The site was originally a seaside bath resort with saltwater pools and a beach before becoming the modern recreation complex you see today. This transformation reflects how places adapt to changing community needs over time.
