Hida Observatory, Research astronomical observatory in Takayama, Japan
The Hida Observatory spans across 182,519 square meters at an elevation of 1,275 meters, providing excellent conditions for astronomical research and solar observations.
Established in 1968 as part of Kyoto University, the facility received Asia's largest refractor telescope in 1972, measuring 65 centimeters in diameter.
The observatory contributes to Japan's scientific advancement through international collaborations, including participation in the Atacama Large Millimeter Array project.
Researchers at the facility utilize three primary instruments: a 60-centimeter Domeless Solar Telescope, a 65-centimeter refractor, and a 60-centimeter reflector telescope.
The Solar Flare Monitor Telescope, installed in 1991, conducts daily observations of solar surface activity using six separate monitoring systems.
