六甲人工島渡輪碼頭, Ferry terminal in Kobe, Japan.
Rokko Island Ferry Terminal is a ferry terminal located on Rokko Island, an artificial island in the eastern part of Kobe, Japan. It serves sea routes to Oita and Shinmoji in Fukuoka Prefecture, linking Kobe to the island of Kyushu.
The terminal opened in March 1988 as part of the development of Rokko Island. After the 1995 Hyogo earthquake damaged the facility, it was rebuilt so that ferry services could continue.
For many travelers, boarding a ferry here at night and waking up in Kyushu is a familiar and comfortable way to travel across western Japan. The overnight crossing has a relaxed pace that sets it apart from bullet train travel.
The terminal is on Rokko Island and can be reached by bus from nearby train stations, including Hanshin Mikage and JR Sumiyoshi. Ferries on these routes typically depart in the evening and arrive the following morning, so plan accordingly.
Hankyu Ferry has its registered headquarters at this terminal, even though the company also operates from other ports. The second berth has a quay wall around 266 meters long, large enough to handle the overnight ferries that serve the Kyushu routes.
