Mikage Tower Residence, High-rise residential building in Kobe, Japan.
Mikage Tower Residence is a tall residential building in the Mikage district of Kobe, with 47 floors and around 500 apartments. It rises well above the surrounding low-rise neighborhood and is visible from many parts of the city.
The tower was built between 2007 and 2010 and, when completed, briefly stood as the tallest building in Kobe. Its construction came during a broader phase of urban renewal that the city had been going through since the 1995 earthquake.
The residential tower shapes Kobe's skyline and shows how contemporary Japanese architecture shapes daily life for its residents. People use the spaces for modern urban living with access to city conveniences.
The building sits in the Mikage neighborhood, which is served by the Hanshin railway line with a station nearby. The tower exterior is easy to see from the surrounding streets since it rises well above everything around it.
The building was designed by Takenaka Corporation, one of Japan's oldest construction companies, with roots going back to the 17th century. Even though it no longer holds the record for the tallest building in the city, it remains a clear reference point on Kobe's horizon.
