Kosetsu Museum of Art, Art museum in Mikage-Gunge, Japan.

Kosetsu Museum of Art is an art museum in Mikage-Gunge that displays Japanese and East Asian artworks, many of which hold national cultural importance. The collection is presented across original buildings arranged around the site, showing pieces from different periods and forms of artistic expression.

The museum opened in 1973 to display the collection assembled by Ryuhei Murayama, founder of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, over several decades of careful acquisition. His gathering of ancient Japanese and East Asian artworks formed the foundation on which the institution was built.

The museum hosts traditional tea ceremonies performed by the Yabunouchi school within its Japanese-style buildings, using tea utensils from its own collection. These events show how such practices remain part of daily cultural life and are experienced by visitors today.

The museum sits within easy walking distance of two train stations and can be reached from either in just minutes. The site itself flows naturally, though the buildings are positioned at different levels of the grounds.

The museum buildings were originally the private residence of Murayama and showcase construction methods from the early 20th century. These structures themselves are integral to the visit, shaping how visitors experience moving through the space.
