Izumi Koganezuka Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Izumi, Japan
The Izumi Koganezuka Kofun stretches 94 meters in length with a circular rear section measuring 60 meters in diameter and a rectangular front section 42 meters wide.
Built in the late 4th century, this keyhole-shaped tomb contained three clay chambers with wooden coffins and numerous bronze mirrors, including one dated to the Wei Dynasty.
The discovery of ceremonial objects, including bronze mirrors, comma-shaped beads, and clay figures, indicates the high social status of the buried individual.
The archaeological site sits at the northwestern edge of Mount Shinodayama, accessible through a 20-minute walk from JR Hanwa Line Tomoki Station.
The excavation revealed multiple clay figurines near the constricted section of the mound, representing houses, armor, quivers, and ceremonial objects.
