Dōjima Yakushidō, Buddhist temple in Dojima district, Osaka, Japan
Dōjima Yakushidō is a temple featuring a distinctive spherical structure covered with 127 golden mirrors situated within the Dojima Avanza complex gardens. The rounded form and reflective surfaces create a notable visual focal point within the garden layout.
The temple traces its origins to 593, but during the Meiji era it was relocated due to theater construction. The site returned to its original location in 1999.
The temple holds a yearly Setsubun Omizukumi celebration on February 3, where visitors participate in traditional rituals alongside water harvesting ceremonies. This gathering brings people together to honor both ancient customs and the spiritual purpose of the space.
The temple sits about five minutes from JR Kitashinja Station and roughly ten minutes from JR Osaka Station. The grounds remain accessible year-round, allowing visits in any season.
The centerpiece is a sphere about 23 feet (7 meters) in diameter made of mirrors, meant to represent the infinite spirit of Yakushi Buddha. This modern design stands in sharp contrast with the ancient founding history of the place.
