Miyamorigawa Bridge, Railway bridge in Tono, Japan.
Miyamorigawa Bridge is a railway bridge in Tono consisting of five concrete arches that span 107.3 meters across the river and National Route 283. The structure stands 17.8 meters tall and connects two stations on the JR East Kamaishi Line.
The bridge was originally built in 1915 as part of the Iwate Light Railway and underwent reconstruction in 1943. Three stone pillars from the original construction remain standing today.
The structure inspired Japanese author Kenji Miyazawa, who drew on his impressions of the local landscape when crafting his famous children's story 'Night on the Galactic Railroad'. The story reflects how people in the region connected their daily surroundings with imagination and wonder.
You can access the bridge from National Route 283 or by train from either adjacent station. The best time to view it is during daylight hours when the five arches are clearly visible from various angles.
On Friday through Sunday evenings, the bridge glows with LED lighting that creates moving patterns across its five arches. The lights shine from sunset until 10 PM, transforming how the structure appears after dark.
