Shogenji

The Shogenji temple features traditional Japanese Buddhist architecture with wooden structures and stone lanterns placed throughout its grounds.

Founded in 817 CE as a Tendai temple during Saicho's visit to Eastern Japan, Shogenji later transformed into a Rinzai School temple in the Kamakura period.

Located within an 8-minute walk from Ochiai Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, the temple opens its gates to visitors during regular daytime hours.

Six former magistrates and numerous wealthy merchant families from the Edo period rest in the temple grounds, reflecting its historical connection to local commerce.
