The museum opened on April 29, 1984, incorporating exhibits from the Kobe Port Island Exposition and a refurbished telescope from the 1923 Kobe Marine Observatory.
The facility maintains six exhibition halls focusing on urban science, life sciences, and creative technology, attracting 420,000 visitors annually.
The museum operates from 9:30 to 16:30 on weekdays and until 19:00 on weekends, with access through Port Liner to Minami Park Station.
The planetarium projects 25,000 stars and features a massive 4.2-meter diameter globe as its central display element.
