Chōraku-ji

Chōraku-ji temple features traditional Japanese architecture with multiple buildings surrounded by gardens and ancient stone monuments on its grounds.

The temple, mentioned in the Kokin Wakashū poetry anthology, indicates its existence since the 10th century as a significant religious center in Nagano Prefecture.

The temple complex includes numerous poetry monuments, including a famous stone marker commemorating poet Matsuo Bashō's visit and his moon-viewing composition.

Visitors can reach the temple by taking the Shinonoi Line to Obasute Station, followed by an 11-minute walk through the hillside paths.

The temple stands as the 14th station of the Shinano 33 Kannon Pilgrimage, featuring a 15-meter-high rock formation called Obaishi on its grounds.
