Hida Takayama Museum of Art, Art museum in Takayama, Japan
The Hida Takayama Museum of Art is an art museum with five exhibition rooms situated on a hilltop with views toward the Northern Japanese Alps in Gifu Prefecture. The galleries are organized to present a broad collection of European and international artworks.
The museum opened in April 2024 and inherited the collections from the former Hida Takayama Museum. The predecessor institution had developed a strong reputation as an important art venue in the region.
The museum displays an international collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces, including glass works by artists such as Emile Gallé and René Lalique. Visitors can explore these objects in thoughtfully designed spaces that highlight the elegance of these artistic movements.
The museum is located within the Sanctuary Court Art Gallery Resort and offers free parking for visitors. It opens daily and can be comfortably visited in a few hours to view the exhibitions at an unhurried pace.
The second exhibition room incorporates music, lighting, and fragrances that shift with the seasons and time of day. This sensory design creates varying experiences for visitors depending on when they visit.
