Awamata Falls, Waterfall in Otaki, Japan

The falls cascade down 30 meters through multiple levels of rock formations, creating a natural staircase effect across a width of 30 meters.

The waterfall, originally named Takataki (High Falls), received its current name Awamata from the surrounding village and appears on official geographic maps since 1900.

The falls represent a significant natural landmark in the Yoro Valley region, featured in numerous local festivals and traditional celebrations throughout the year.

Visitors can access the falls via the Kominato Railway to Yoro Valley Station or through the Isumi Railway to Kazusa-Nakano Station, with town-operated parking available.

The geological formation beneath the falls exhibits a rare cuesta landform, where sandstone erosion contrasts with preserved mudstone layers.
