Hōtōzan Kofun, Kofun archaeological site in Maebashi, Japan.

The Hōtōzan burial mound features a keyhole shape design with a circular portion connected to a narrow rectangular section spanning several meters in length.

Construction of this burial structure occurred during the late 5th century when regional leaders established their authority through grand funeral monuments.

The burial mound contains numerous artifacts including pottery, metal objects, and tools that indicate funeral practices of Japan's ancient elite class.

Visitors can reach the archaeological site by taking a local bus from Maebashi Station and walking through marked paths to the excavation area.

This kofun represents one of the many preserved burial mounds in the region that maintain their original structural integrity from the Kofun period.
